Born in Mexico City on April 21, 1942, Carlos embarked on a journey that would lead him from the study of architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) to the captivating realm of art.

Style and school
His is a self-taught pictorial manifestation, “full of color and matter”. He defines his work as “outbursts of artistic feeling”.

He faces the subject, the color, the imprint, the texture, “with all his being”, with total surrender, and “in a brutal manner”. And even though he has no intention of compromising his particular style, he is in the process of polishing the school of Brutalesque in form and color, so it can be better enjoyed.
After almost ten years, he confirms he is still a self-taught artist, but he now sees more with the eyes of the mind. People have responded. He loves to watch the reaction of the public when they look at his works for the first time. How could he forget a group of ladies that left screaming and gesticulating after looking at a red Christ in his exhibition in the Casino Español building? It was fascinating.
Regarding techniques, he feels at home with pencils, pastels, and acrylics. Nevertheless, there is a crucial element: “It is very clear to me that there comes a moment when I need to add something heavy… That, for me, is oil painting. Oils give the work a specific weight that has no equal”.
Today
Life goes on. This new period of his life finds him mature but with the soul of a child. The first period of his pictorial activity, he says, was a candid one. Now, the transformation has taken him by surprise: from anonymity to public scrutiny, from a secret love to a passion in full light… life changes.

What doesn’t change and he will never let go- is the treasure he has found: peace of mind. Who would have hinted, after seeing Brutalesque at its maximum expression, that Lozano confirms this in an absolute and beautiful paradox: “I have lived an agitated life. Now I have found peace in painting”.
